COMMUNICATION
By Taylor and Katherine
The Chinese use characters in their writing, instead of letters. Students must learn thousands of characters by heart when they are beginning to learn to read and write.

Most people in China speak Mandarin. To say hello, say
"Ni Hao."
To say goodbye, say
"Zai jian."
People in China consider their type of writing an art. This type of art is called calligraphy.

Here is how to count in Mandarin from one to ten.
1 - yee
2 - uhr
3 - sahn
4 - suh
5 - woo
6 - lyo
7 - chee
8 - bah
9 - jo
10 - shur
In the United States, people read from left to right. In China, they read from top to bottom and from right to left.
